The Changing Face of Worcester team have put most of the pictures from the project on photo-sharing web site
From the late 1960s to the late 1990s, thousands of Worcester people thrilled to the presentation The Changing Face of Worcester which brothers Clive and Malcolm Haynes created from slides they had taken themselves, family snaps brought to them by their many fans and professional pictures from a hundred years of Worcester photography. This was no ordinary slideshow - up to six projectors linked to faders and eventually computer control, music and an excellent commentary based on good research. And the pictures were stunning! Buildings were constructed, aged, were pulled down and replaced before our eyes. Themes were developed on architecture, conservation, famous lives and historical events. We looked out for where to see the next presentation and booked early.
Worcester Heritage and Amenity Trust, best known for their Heritage Centre at Tudor House in Friar Street, Worcester, have taken on the project to capture on to computer the slides used in the presentation, and thousands of others from the collection held by Clive Haynes. Volunteers have been recruited to prepare the slides, digitise them using an automatic slide scanner, index them and locate them on a computer map. A DVD will be produced to introduce the project to local groups, who may be able to offer help with skills, volunteers and finance.
Volunteers are already at work on the preparation and scanning of slides on our automatic slide scanner. The computer software for the database is at testing stage and we should be able to begin the first stages of indexing soon. If you would like to join the project as a volunteer, please call or email Tudor House: details are on the Who we are page. You don't need to know about computers, photography or anything else. We will find a job for you.
