Tudor House has had
a varied life in the five centuries since it was built. It has been
used as a work place for weavers, clothiers, tailors, bakers, painters,
brewers and was used as lodgings, the Cross Keys Inn, a tearoom and
restaurant, a WW2 air raid wardens' post and billet office, a school
clinic and a museum.
A group of volunteers known as Worcester Heritage & Amenity Trust opened
the doors in May 2004 to keep the building available to the public as
Tudor House Heritage & Education Centre. Displays of local history,
crafts and culture over several rooms are complemented by a shop and
coffee room serving drinks and cakes.
By car, leave the M5 at Junction 7 and go north on the A44 towards Worcester City Centre. Left turn off A44 to park at King Street, continue to roundabout near the Cathedral to park at Cathedral Square Multi-Storey, or turn right on to A38 northbound to park at St Martins Gate Multi-Storey. You can also approach from the north and park at the Park and Ride off the A38. Coaches should drop off passengers on A38 northbound City Walls Road at the Union Street junction, Tudor House is a very short walk down Union Street or Charles Street. By rail, arrive at Foregate Street Station, turn left out of the station and walk down the main street, turn left into Pump Street, then right into Friar Street. By bus, alight at City Walls Road coming from the south, then as coach instructions, otherwise walk back from the bus station to the main street, turn right and follow the rail instructions. If you get lost, most Worcester people know where Friar Street or Tudor House is, and they are very friendly!
