SUMMARY:In the Weave: A public talk exploring the Tudor Textile Trade and Hilary Mantel's Cromwell Trilogy
DESCRIPTION:Dr Lucy Arnold and Dr Lucie Bea Dutton present …’In the Weave’\, a talk that will explore the relationship between fabric as material and fabric as metaphor in Hilary Mantel’s historical novels. Dr Lucy Arnold’s research in this area explores the connection between texts and textiles\, both for members of Tudor society\, and for us as contemporary readers and Dr Lucie Bea Dutton\, incorporates her historic research interests into her quilts and has been stitching work inspired by Hilary Mantel’s Cromwell Trilogy for almost a decade. She is particularly interested in the role of stitching across the trilogy\, and the fictionalised Cromwell’s knowledge of the time and skill associated with textile work. She writes about the project at Stitching Thomas Cromwell – Textile interpretations of the Wolf Hall Trilogy (stitchingcromwell.com)

SUMMARY:Tom Cox Talk
DESCRIPTION:***THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT!*** \nBestselling author\, former sports and music journalist\, cat afficionado and writer of ghost stories\, Tom Cox\, will be holding his first ever Worcestershire talk this October! Celebrating the release of his 8th book\, Help the Witch\, with a candle-lit evening at Tudor House Museum\, he’ll be sharing his ghost stories and experiences\, and asking you to share yours. \n“City-dwelling friends expressed confusion at the ease I felt at walking – often at night – through ominous rural places\, and at my enthusiasm for ancient and malevolent buildings. I explained that if I felt terror in those places\, it was a pleasing MR James kind\, and that the true kind of terror that kept me awake at night was reserved for more mundane parts of everyday life: the prospect of completing my tax return\, the idea of committing a social faux pas that might hurt the feelings of someone I cared about. Looking back at this still very recent period\, and comparing it to my first few nights in my house in the Peak District\, I see something else that’s distinctly Jamesian\, though: me as the classic blasé protagonist with his enthusiasm for books and hiking\, scoffing in the face of the supernatural only a short period of time before being served his comeuppance. For my first two nights in the remote late Victorian farmhouse where I now live\, a blizzard raged…” \nWe only put a limited number of tickets for this event through Eventbrite. If it appears sold out\, it’s worth contacting the office direct on the number or email below. \nFAQs \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? \nYou will need to be 16 or over for this event. \nWhat are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? \nThe museum is a 10 minute walk from the city train and bus stations. There is limited on-street parking and a number of car parks within a 5 minute walk. \nWhat can I bring into the event? \nYourself\, your loved ones\, your camera\, your ghost stories. No drinks or bottles. There will be a limited bar on the night. \nHow can I contact the organiser with any questions? \nEmail info@tudorhouse.org.uk or call 01905 612309. \nWhat’s the refund policy? \nWe will only refund if we have to cancel the event. If you can’t attend after booking tickets\, we’ll help you try to resell them and will refund you only if successful.
