Bring your class or group to visit us …

With over five hundred years of history to discover, the Tudor House Museum is the perfect place to bring your class when you want to delve into the past. In it’s time, our amazing building has been many things – a home for weavers, a Tudor gentleman’s house and place of business, an Air Raid Warden’s post, a dentist’s surgery and even a Victorian tavern. Packed within it’s walls are fascinating rooms to explore, bringing history learning to life.

Our education programme offers interactive days and practical workshops to inspire learners of all ages. We have a range of themes to choose from, covering all aspects of life from Tudor times onwards, designed to develop knowledge of life in the past and inspire a love for historical enquiry. Learning visit days can be adapted to compliment your current class focus and interests; here’s an example of one of our successful workshop ideas:

Life in Tudor times

Discover what everyday life was like for a person living here in Tudor times. We begin the day exploring Tudor clothing and fashion, thinking about why this was so different to the clothes that we know today. Be prepared for some dressing up! The fun continues with a choice of activities:

Investigating wool and weaving; why this was such an important industry in the local area. Try using the loom and have a go at weaving by hand.

Tudor Education. What was school like in Tudor times, who went and what did they learn about? This workshop offers the chance to compare education through the ages as well as learning how to write ‘Tudor Style’, with a quill and ink.

Enjoy exploring some popular Tudor pastimes. Learn how to play different games and try them out, investigate some handling objects and find out who would have played with them.

Become a building investigator! Armed with a clipboard and some briefing notes, explore the house to consider how the building was constructed and identify some key features typical of Tudor dwellings, which tell us about aspects of Tudor life for the people involved in building and living here. Examine the original plasterwork ceiling and find out about conducting business deals Tudor style.

We also offer themed Learning Days focusing on World War II and ‘A Victorian Household’. Take a look here at one of our World War II Days in action!

Tudor House Museum is the ideal place to learn about significant events, people and places in a local context; a visit day can form an integral part of a topic centred around a local history study, adapted and developed according to your chosen learning focus. Experience Tudor House Museum and Worcester Cathedral in one day!

In collaboration with Worcester Cathedral, we also offer a joint visit option, ideal for larger group sizes. The day is organised into two sessions, with half of your group exploring the Tudor House Museum first, while the other half visit the Cathedral. After meeting together for lunch, the groups swap (walking between venues supported by volunteers), meaning that all learners complete the entire experience.

At Tudor House, your visit will include a workshop about Tudor Clothing and Costumes, along with a choice of another workshop (choose from Wool and Weaving, Pleasures and Pastimes, Building Investigators or Quills and Ink). Cathedral workshops will include a tour of the Cathedral and either a ‘Prince Arthur’ or ‘Six Wives of Henry VIII’ workshop.
