Since the beginning of February, Tudor House has been delighted to offer Tudor Thursdays: Homeschool History Zoom talks for Key Stage 2 (from 10am to 10:45am) and Key Stage 3 and 4 (from 2pm to 2:45pm). These explore different aspects of everyday life in the Tudor period for primary and secondary pupils. Thanks to generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we’re able to offer them completely for free – but hurry, only for three more weeks! We’ve had a brilliant response to the sessions so far, and we’ve been so impressed by everyone’s enthusiasm and knowledge of the Tudors. They’re certainly keeping us on our toes! Our Key Stage 2 sessions have looked so far at what you might find in a Tudor house; what the Tudors ate and drank, and what the Tudors learnt at school. Each week we start with a quick quiz. If you missed it, click here for our true or false quiz about the Tudor school day. Did they really start school at 6am?! Have a go at guessing, then check your answers here. After the quiz, we talk about that week’s topic, with plenty of time for questions. After the session, there is an optional worksheet with follow up activities. Last week, our intrepid learners heard about Tudor food, then had a go at making some Tudor style biscuits. Don’t they look yummy?
We have sessions coming up on what it was like when Queen Elizabeth I visited Worcester (find out about our connection to royalty!) and Tudor toys and games. If that sounds like fun, you can book your place here. Plus, on 18 February, we’re running a special session for half term, where you can ask us anything. If you have any questions about the Tudor period, now is your chance to get them answered. And yes, you can ask about Tudor toilets! Our Key Stage 3 and 4 sessions discuss topics have looked at everything from how eco-friendly the Tudors were to what it was like to be a teenage Tudor. Coming up, we’ve got sessions on what daily life was like for rich and poor, and Tudor leisure. Again, on the 18 February, we’ve a Tudor Q&A session for secondary school pupils where you can ask us anything you’d like about life in Tudor House in the sixteenth century. Finally: are you a teacher of history? If you’d like to book for us to deliver any of these sessions virtually to your groups, do get in touch. Excitingly, we’re able to offer these completely free, but only until 26th February 2021. The sessions are still available after this date, but there will be a fee. Please note that, during the ongoing lockdowns, all sessions will be delivered virtually. In future it may be possible to offer an in-person visit, with object handling from our collection, to schools in the local area. Schools further afield can still participate in a virtual session.
